  • A Message from Generation Ahrar

thumb_GettyImages_89016479For far too long we have watched our parents and our families suffer as shortages of power, clean water and food have ruled their lives. We have seen our education disrupted by violence and our job opportunities snatched from us. We have been unable to meet our friends without the fear of violence and it is time for this to end.

As young people who want to have a future in our own country we are backing Ahrar and its leader Ayad Jamal Aldin.

  • The battle against youth unemployment

The youth are the future of Iraq, and they need jobs now more than ever. That is why Ayad Jamal Aldin, Ahrar Party Leader has pledged to create 1 million jobs, especially for young people. Watch the video here.

Highly educated, intelligent and unemployed - that is the reality for millions of young people across the world.

And now, in the wake of the global financial crisis, the International Labour Organisation, which brings together governments, employers and unions, warns that the effort to save the worlds banks could prove useless, unless equal energy is spent on creating jobs.

"People will soon start asking why has so much been done to save the banks and so little to save us," says Juan Samaravia, the Director General of the ILO. "It's a very legitimate question."

  • Ayad Jamal Aldin Launches Ahrar Party In Baghdad

Over 500 supporters and candidates turned out today at Baghdad’s Hotel Babylon, for the press call to launch Ahrar, Iraq’s newest political party.

Party Leader Ayad Jamal Aldin MP spoke strongly against Iranian influence in Iraq. Instead, he outlined his vision for One Iraq - secular, independent, united and free. He was firm on the current deadlock in the parliament over Kirkuk, saying, “Kirkuk is Iraqi, and Iraq must not be divided for any reason.”

He made his priority clear, to tackle Iraq’s chronic problems with drought, power cuts, jobs and corruption. Among more than 50 candidates present were a cross-section of Iraqis, including women, men and Sunnis who had been selected by Shi’as, and Shi’as selected by Sunnis, Kurds and young people.

Ayad Jamal Aldin is the only man to have consistently stood against the corruption present in the Iraqi government. He drew a clear line between the problems people face each day, the corruption of Iraqi institutions and the danger of a similar outcome to that recently seen in Afghanistan. He said, “Our current politicians have been tested and failed. They are not the answer to this problem – they ARE the problem.”

Ahrar will be campaigning hard, pending agreement on the Iraqi electoral law, from now until January. Substantial support for the movement has already been received, enabling a high-profile advertising campaign to boost recognition of both Ahrar and Ayad Jamal Aldin’s unique message.

Letter to Ayad Jamal Aldin from an Iraqi Student

I am a young Iraqi student, sent by my parents to university in the West, in order to give me the best opportunity for my future. It has been their dream to be able to give me such an opportunity and they have spent a fortune on my education. However, as I am now in my final year, I have begun to look at this wonderful opportunity as both a blessing and a curse!
